The information is derived from the list published by the MOT and the Ordnance Survey "MOT" maps. It changed quite considerably in the 20s (as the MOT realised its mistakes). The published list didn't sell very well and was never updated; MOT maps were published each year up to about 1929 showing the changes. Although some earlier maps from Michelin and Bartholomew were published before this, they were based on earlier drafts of the numbering scheme which were not officially agreed. Jump to: * A100 * A200 * A300 * A400 * A500 * A600 * A700 * A800 * A900 A summary of four-digit A-roads and B-roads is here. 1 London - Doncaster - Newcastle - Edinburgh Originally ran through Barnet now A1000; bypassed by A1M; original line near Doncaster ran through Retford-Ranskill-Doncaster - changed when A1M built.
